FirstFruits Farm SLO

Firstfruits Farm SLO is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in San Luis Obispo County, California, dedicated to organically farming and freely giving fresh fruits and vegetables to people experiencing food insecurity in the local community. Rooted in compassion, environmental stewardship, and dignity for all, the organization operates on a one-acre field where volunteers of all ages come together to plant, grow, harvest, and share produce with partner agencies and neighbors in need.

For this project, the mission and values of Firstfruits Farm SLO served as the foundation of the visual identity. The organization’s commitment to *“planting hope,” “growing generosity,” and “honoring dignity” inspired a logo that visually reflects nourishment, community, and sustainability — core aspects of their work.

I approached the logo design with these goals:

  • Symbolize growth and generosity — visually representing the cycle of cultivation and giving that defines Firstfruits’ mission.

  • Express community and inclusivity — reflecting the volunteer ethos and open-hearted spirit of the farm.

  • Communicate organic and earth-centered values — through natural shapes, warm tones, and agricultural cues.

The resulting logo system combines organic visual elements (e.g., leaf and produce motifs) with a type treatment that evokes both warmth and groundedness. The form is friendly yet purposeful, symbolizing fresh produce, community roots, and shared abundance — all while remaining clear and versatile across digital, print, and environmental applications (signage, volunteer shirts, marketing materials, etc.).

Ultimately, the design embodies Firstfruits Farm SLO’s mission to care for both the earth and their neighbors by visually reinforcing their identity as a welcoming, sustainable, and impactful community resource.
